I tried twice recently to adopt a puppy for my dearest Kenji, my shiba inu. Both times I received a resounding, “No” on account of either the ownership of rabbits or because my shiba has medication sensitivities and can not take the medication for fleas and heart worms. Like I think I could adopt a child easier! My animals are my children! I wanted a mate for my dog because now that he is receiving treatment for his joint issues, he is back up to puppy energy. After filling out the most detailed applications, with references and veterinary information, I was denied twice. Not only that, but has anyone else noticed that it is more expensive to adopt a puppy than to get one on CL and about the same price as buying a puppy from these risky, likely a puppy mill, websites. So a person has an option when seeking a new pet to buy from a mill or jump through hoops to adopt one with behavioral issues from a center. What would you do? And we wonder why the mills we detest so much continue to succeed. The blood lines are getting nine kinds of messed up thus deteriorating the true breed, making them dumber. Which sends more pets to a shelter. Think about it…..

Please note I am not against the applications, and I am extremely PRO the lifetime ban lists for animal abusers. I just also believe the people picking who can adopt should adhere to guidelines and research instead of personal opinions and hearsay. I seriously had a woman tell me my Shiba Inu originated in Africa… My dog has the fur of a Husky! Rawr!
