Who decides what’s best for another?

The golden rule proclaims ‘the self’.

Yet, that is where narcissism dwells.

Sociopathic tendency even,

Avoiding empathy!

To assume another’s experiences,

Based on personal reflection,

Is no different,

Than an abuser’s gaslight:

‘It didn’t hurt me when I survived it!’

Just another repressive protection;

For self…

To hide from suffering in self.

Meanwhile, the other proclaims:

‘PAIN!’

Protesting…begging it ends!

The golden rule decides whats best for another,

Based in what was accepted as best for self…

So where is the connection here?

The communication?

The listening?

The other?

Midas’s touch ruined his life…

So why would a society demand,

Self is who knows best for another,

Unless that group,

Is rolling around in avoidance,

Of conflict,

Individual truths,

And learning to make room for different,

Or the reality of imperfection…

Oh the humanity!
